Hi, Teresa! Thanks for reaching out. The Social Security office does not make the medical decision. That is the responsibility of Disability Determination Services (DDS). But she can always apply for disability to see if she would qualify. It never hurts to find out your options! She may also want to see if she could receive State Medicaid by contacting the state office to find out. Here is a link to find out more about Medicaid: https://www.usa.gov/medicaid. Wishing you and your daughter all the best!

Heather, Thank you for this good information. I have a question about whether my adult child is eligible for benefits or medical assistance. She is a type 1 diabetic , has thyroid disease and heart tachycardia. She is 24 years old and a full time student in a graduate program. Her father has recently lost his job. We lost our health insurance also. We are no longer able to afford her very expensive medicines and doctor appointments. Is she eligible for any kind of help.
